Our History
PINEAE GREENHOUSES’ HISTORY
Pineae Greenhouses, Inc. is a premium-quality, wholesale grower of Spring Flowering Annuals, Perennials, Container Nursery Products and Flowering Holiday Plants. Sales of finished ornamental plants are to wholesale customers in the Rocky Mountain region. Pineae also has an excellent and well-deserved reputation as a supplier of Young Starter Plants (Liners) that are delivered to growers throughout the US and Canada.
The Gold family started Pineae Greenhouse in 1952 in Bountiful, Utah where potted foliage plants were the first greenhouse crop grown. At this time time, plant knowledge and production techniques for the greenhouse trade were in its infancy. Through hard work and valuable mentoring from industry leaders, Pineae soon became a leader in nursery and greenhouse production in the Rocky Mountain area and beyond.
Starting with a single half-acre of greenhouse production, today Pineae does business on 85+ acres in West Weber County, Utah including over 21 acres of covered greenhouse and 30 acres of nursery production.
From those simple beginnings in Bountiful, The planned I-15 corridor construction necessitated moving the operation to a second property located at 675 N. Main Street Centerville in 1958.
Pineae developed and grew in this spot for the next 40 years.
On August 2, 1982 an accidental fire started by local youth completely destroyed Pineae’s greenhouse structure.
Taking this set-back and, with substantial support from the community, turning it into an opportunity for growth, the old wooden structures were rebuilt and replaced by modern steel greenhouses. After the fire, the entire community showed up to assist in the clean up process and help “Resurrect Pineae”. That loyalty and dedication, expressed and demonstrated to us from our friends, neighbors and fellow business owners, is never far from our minds.
Unfortunately, with company growth limited by site size and the greenhouse structures detrimentally buffeted by seasonal East Canyon winds, the Centerville property was sold in 2006 and the entire operation moved to its current 85-acre home located West of Ogden, Utah.
With this move came the addition of a state-of-the-art automated greenhouse system and nursery operation that serves wholesale customers in the Rocky Mountain region as well as growers throughout the US and Canada.
Our production is vertically integrated to allow complete control over the growing process starting with sowing seeds & sticking unrooted cuttings from offshore, to robotic transplanting and finally to product delivery on rolling carts directly to our customers.
To meet the needs of our customers, we continue to invest into new technology along with developing new, cutting-edge proprietary production and growing processes to improve products for our loyal customers.
Pineae’s well-deserved reputation in the ornamental plant industry is a result of a commitment to innovation combined with an excellent high altitude production facility, a keen attention to detail and a strong company-wide commitment to quality and consistency.
